Resources
Khan Academy
An online repository of videos covering numerous topics in math, science, history, economics, and others. If you miss a day of class, this may be a good place to try and learn about what we did.
Just Math Tutorials
Another site similar to the Khan Academy, but focused on math only, and with a layout that's a little more organized, I think.
Cool Math Online Graphing Calculator
A graphing calculator you can use outside of class if you don't have one.
Meta Calculator Online Graphing Calculator
Another free online graphing calculator. I don't like this one as much as the other one, but you might feel differently.
Hotmath
Hotmath is a site that offers solutions to many popular math textbooks (including ours). You have to pay to get access to solutions, which I would advise against, since I can give them to you for free, but the nice thing is that you can access book problems even if you forget your book at school.
Videos
Open Letter to Nickelodeon
This is a video by Vi Hart discussing the pineapple spirals stuff we talked about in class. Vi Hart has made a lot of other videos about math, some of which may be a bit above your understanding, but many are not, and she usually uses a lot of humor, so they're fun to watch anyway. Here is part 1 (of 3) of another video about spirals in nature and Fibonacci numbers.
The Quadratic Formula Song
The infamous quadratic formula song.
Math Motorways
An interesting video about finding the shortest distance between any number of towns.
Other Fun Links
On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences (OEIS)
A site that lets you put in an sequence of integers and will then tell you if there's anything special about the sequence you entered.
Pi Search
A site that lets you search for strings of numbers in the digits of pi. For example, if your birthday were March 3rd, 1994, you could search for 03031994 and see where it happens in the digits of pi.
Math Girls
Math Girls is a novel by Hiroshi Yuki that also deals with mathematical topics in a way completely different than we usually do in school. The back cover says: "Math Girls is a unique introduction to advanced mathematics, delivered through the eyes of three students as they learn to deal with problems seldom found in textbooks." The first two chapters are available free from the publisher on the website.
